FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What should I do if my pet has an emergency after regular vet hours?

If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency outside of normal business hours, you should seek after hours pet emergencies care immediately. Our emergency vet clinic is specifically designed to provide urgent treatment when primary care veterinarians are closed. If your pet is in distress, you can call ahead or come directly to our hospital for immediate evaluation.

  • Do you provide afterhours emergency pet care?

Yes. We offer dedicated afterhours emergency pet care during nights, weekends, and holidays. Pets don’t always get sick or injured during convenient hours, and our team is here to ensure they receive timely, lifesaving care whenever an emergency occurs.

  • What types of emergency veterinary services do you offer?

Our emergency veterinary services include advanced diagnostics, intensive care monitoring, pain management, wound treatment, and stabilization for critically ill or injured pets. We also provide urgent pet care for conditions that cannot safely wait until your regular veterinarian reopens.

  • Is Erie Pet Emergency considered an emergency animal hospital?

Yes. We are a full-service emergency animal hospital, focused exclusively on urgent and critical veterinary care. Unlike general practices, we do not offer routine wellness visits or vaccinations — our sole mission is to treat pets who need immediate medical attention.

  • How do I know if my pet needs urgent pet care?

You should seek urgent pet care if your pet shows sudden or severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, collapse, seizures, inability to urinate, severe vomiting or diarrhea, or signs of intense pain. When in doubt, it’s always better to have your pet evaluated by an emergency vet as soon as possible.

  • Do you provide veterinary trauma care?

Yes. Our team is trained in veterinary trauma care and equipped to treat pets who have suffered serious injuries such as being hit by a car, animal bites, falls, or other accidents. Trauma cases are triaged immediately to stabilize your pet and address life-threatening injuries first.

  • Are you open on weekends and holidays?

Yes. Our emergency vet clinic is available on weekends and major holidays to ensure pets have access to critical care when other clinics are closed. Emergencies don’t take days off, and neither do our emergency veterinary services.

  • Do I need an appointment for after hours pet emergencies?

No appointment is required for after hours pet emergencies. Walk-ins are always accepted. However, calling ahead when possible allows our team to prepare for your arrival and provide guidance on safely transporting your pet.

  • Will you communicate with my regular veterinarian?

Absolutely. Once your pet is stable, we can share records and treatment details with your primary care veterinarian to ensure continuity of care. Our role as an emergency animal hospital is to provide immediate treatment and then transition your pet back to their regular vet for follow-up when appropriate.
